A Multiplayer VR Office for Luxottica's Global Engineering Teams
In 2024, Wide VR designed and developed a virtual reality office for the Luxottica Group: a shared, real-time 3D environment where the company's engineers — around 400 people spread across offices in different countries — could meet, collaborate and review products together, regardless of where they were physically located.
Inside the virtual office, engineers could join the same multiplayer session and inspect eyewear and individual eyewear components in full 3D at every stage of the creation process. Frames, hinges, lenses and small mechanical parts could be examined, rotated and discussed collaboratively — as if the entire team were gathered around the same table — turning product reviews that once demanded complex global coordination into a single shared session.
The impact was immediately logistical and economic. Instead of physically shipping prototypes and components back and forth between countries, teams could evaluate every detail digitally and in real time. This drastically reduced shipping costs, waiting times and the friction of aligning reviews across multiple time zones, while keeping every stakeholder focused on the same up-to-date 3D model.
Technically, the experience was built on Unity's URP (Universal Render Pipeline), chosen to deliver high-quality real-time visuals while staying lightweight and scalable across a wide range of hardware. The application was developed with full multiplatform support: engineers could join immersively from a VR headset, or connect from a standard desktop PC when a headset wasn't available — ensuring the entire global team could take part, whatever their setup.
